Did you know that Green City Growers is a Certified B Corporation? B Corporations are a new kind of companyA_BCorp_logo_POS which uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems, and since August 2014, we've proudly been able to join the ranks. The B in the name stands for ‘Benefit.'

Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. These higher standards are like Fair Trade certification (but not just for coffee), USDA Organic certification (but not just for a gallon of milk), or LEED certification (but not just for a building). Rather, these standards measure impact to all stakeholders (e.g. workers, suppliers, community, and the environment.) Certified B Corps distinguish themselves by offering a better way to do business. Plus, by certifying as a B-Corp, we are letting a third party validate that we are a socially and environmentally conscious company.

So why did we do this? Well, in certifying as a B Corp, Green City Growers joins over 1000 Certified B-Corps in more than 60 industries in 34 countries across the world who are striving to redefine success in business. We’re inspired, like our peers, to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.

The vision of GCG is to see farms everywhere – from rooftops to vacant lots. We desire a world where people from all walks of life can come together and access a network of sustainable farming, fueling personal and environmental health, and local food sustainability. In becoming a B Corp, Green City Growers is becoming a lot like one of those vacant lots or rooftops. We’re one small part of a much larger network, a network that taken in sum will transform the way business is done, and what business can do. We’re excited to see our company grow alongside these other visionaries!
