An Intern's perspective
Summer is just about here, and kids are waiting at the edges of their seats for vacation to finally arrive. When I was younger I used to wonder how my parents could possibly work all Summer long with no vacation, but since working at Green City Growers, I have been working to spread opportunity for people to look forward to work this season: Employee Wellness Gardening Programs.
Last Thursday Tany (Our Education Outreach Coordinator/Maintenance Farmer) and I ( Matt the intern) visited some corporate sites that use Green City Growers services. It was my first time working in the field for Green City Growers and probably the first time I have ever actually done any gardening. It turned out to be a really great experience, and even though I couldn’t tell the difference between a weed and a carrot plant at first, I eventually caught on and was able to help.
We visited two Harvard Pilgrim Health Care sites to not only harvest, water, weed, and make sure everything was growing according to plan, but to also teach the employees how to do all this themselves. It was a great time and was really cool to see the excitement and enthusiasm had by the people who had taken an hour off from work to help garden.
