Last Thursday Tany (Our Education Outreach Coordinator/Maintenance Farmer) and I ( Matt the intern) visited some corporate sites that use Green City Growers services. It was my first time working in the field for Green City Growers and probably the first time I have ever actually done any gardening. It turned out to be a really great experience, and even though I couldn’t tell the difference between a weed and a carrot plant at first, I eventually caught on and was able to help.
We visited two Harvard Pilgrim Health Care sites to not only harvest, water, weed, and make sure everything was growing according to plan, but to also teach the employees how to do all this themselves. It was a great time and was really cool to see the excitement and enthusiasm had by the people who had taken an hour off from work to help garden.
Green City Growers is harvesting a lot of Arugula lately! Here is a simple recipe for those looking to creatively transform their Arugula into a something delicious: Arugula Pesto! This goes great with pasta and fresh veggies, roasted potatoes, seasonal fish, or any other way you might use basil pesto.
Our partners over at Derby Street Shoppes and b. good are going to supply own vegetables in their Hingham locations! And we're going to help them grow those vegetables right next door to their shops on a beautiful piece of land.
We're definitely excited to reduce their carbon footprints by a ton!
Truck Farm Chicago has created mobile farms! Their biodiesel truck goes around the city teaching people - mostly kids - about the food growing process and how it relates to their bodies and everyday lives.
They just reached their kickstarter goal, but if you like their idea why not contribute some more towards their cause? Alternatively, if you want Green City Growers to create a Boston truck farm, let us know! We're always looking for positive ways to influence our community and think this is a great idea!
From tips and tricks about gardening, to insights into the food industry (both local and global), to our favorite new recipes, this blog exists to tell you what’s on our mind here at Green City Growers!
